The US is already doing socialized medicine, but lying about its feasibility.
The vaccine roll out in the United States IS universal healthcare in limited scope.
After a strange attempt on a Reddit thread to paint my Anti-capitalism toward big Pharma as anti-vaccine, we had the following discourse.
The big Pharma defense force came in claiming that the vaccines being a product of for-profit pharmacy, even though they weren’t. Most of the research for mRNA has been publicly funded for the past 10 years or longer.
Still, because of the obfuscation of funding, The general public tends to believe that these vaccines were developed solely by the private R&D of the affiliated companies. That’s simply not true, which is why we can trust the science behind the vaccines, because of the public funding, and the transparency that comes with it
Hmm so by that logic you’re saying that the vaccines are a vehicle of these for profit pharmaceutical companies to get more money and power, so it’s best not to take them because that only puts more money in their pocket? u/Alexwoods11
So to that no, not at all. The science behind the vaccines sound. But
It is new and rather untested, we have to acknowledge that fact and we don’t know what side effects may or may not happen.
Regardless the data we have shows that they work, especially at preventing severe cases or hospitalization in breakthrough infections
Now everybody in America can go get that vaccine for free, “free“ isn’t free though. We’ve already paid for it, with our taxes.
…essentially the government just showed us how it could provide universal healthcare, through the distribution of the Covid vaccine for free at endpoint, paid by tax upfront, but has hoodwinked us on the rest of it, acting like it’s impossible to do for anything else, when they are literally doing it right now.
No, by my logic the vaccine roll out despite the massive profitable contracts Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson have with the US government per dose, The new Merck antiviral drug, Is $700 for those that only cost $17 to produce—The government is showing us to even at a profitable markup it can Afford to give the population universal healthcare.
We have studies showing from the Koch brothers that universal healthcare would be cheaper than the system we currently have in place, and because it’s cheaper is why we’re not doing it.
That’s the point I’m trying to make. These private companies in bed with the US government are making a killing off of the vaccine that we’re getting for “free”except that we’ve already paid for it with our taxes.
This very moment, the US is showing us it could easily implement fully universal socialized healthcare, but simply refuses to.
Why? Because keeping health care tied to employment keeps workers at shitty jobs they would rather not do except they have to for their health coverage. Because it’s connected, workers have to except a lower wages if they want health insurance, which serves only the interest of the ruling class because such a system is in direct contradiction to the workers interest.
